GAINES — John C. “Jack” Murray, 82, of Ridge Road died Thursday (Sept. 6, 2012) at his residence in the care of his loving wife.

He was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Albion to the late John R. and Neva (Dahlquist) Murray and had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Murray was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a medic in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division.
He received the Purple Heart medal for his service to his country. Jack was a 69-year member of the Gaines Carlton Community Church, and a member of several community organizations including; Sheret Post 35, American Legion, where he was past commander and a past county Commander of the American Legion, Strickland Post 4635 VFW, Renovation Lodge F&AM, Orleans Chapter 175 Royal Arch Masons, charter member of the Vintage Aircraft Group, Life Member of the Cobblestone Society, St. Mary’s Archers Club, and the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Museum.
Jack also enjoyed participating in Barbershop Quartets in his earlier years.
Mr. Murray was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Leigh.
He will be sadly missed and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anna; his daughter, Melissa (Mark) Rentschler of Florida; grandson, David (Melissa Zimmerman) Gates of Canandaigua, two great-grandchildren, Collin and Hallie Gates; brother-in-law, Eugene Leigh, nephew, John Leigh; nieces, Meredith Minier, Valerie Hatch, and dear friends: Frenchy Downey and Tony Brandt.
The family will receive friends at 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, where Jack’s funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
