ALBION — Clara L. Babcock, 92, died Sunday (Sept. 9, 2012) at Lakeside Memorial Hospital, Brockport.
She was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Fairfield, Iowa, a daughter of the late Jesse and Martha (Rapp) Knickerbocker and had lived in this area all her life.
Clara was married July 6, 1946, to Homer Babcock Sr. at the Pullman Memorial Universalist Church. Clara was a life member of the Albion Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and was a former employee of Newberry’s and Guido’s Supermarket. She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Homer E. Babcock Sr. on July 2, 2011; daughter-in-law, Claire in 2009; siblings, Oliver “Nick,” Acie, Edith Moden and Ella Knickerbocker. She is survived by her children, Homer Babcock Jr. of Florida, Jesse (Cheryl) Babcock of Albion, and Martha “Midge” (Alan) Meister of Kentucky; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Violet Mager of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, where her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans.
